As summer draws into its second month, many people are traveling to various locations for vacation. However, that doesn’t mean cybersecurity considerations should fly out the window.
PandaLabs has compiled a list of cybersecurity tips to remember when preparing for vacation.
“The main advice I usually give is to use common sense and conduct ourselves in our online life as in real life, being even more suspicious of the latter,” Luis Corrons of PandaLabs, writes. “How clever, you will think, this guy knows about security and tells us to have common sense, as if we would not need some other things “¦ and you are absolutely right. In fact, my colleagues from the Communication Department have released today a summary of the top tips to keep in mind this summer.”
The tip sheet includes planning for taking a computer with you on vacation, including considering encryption, backing-up information and data, ensuring that any anti-virus programs are up-to-date and stay away from unprotected WiFi networks.
The guide also cautions users to be wary what they post to social networking sites and to, ideally, avoid using computers that are not their own as “You never know what could be installed on this computer.”
