In order to build cyber capabilities, companies have one of two options; invest into expanding your own offerings by building the capabilities into your company structure or acquire a company that already has the capabilities you are seeking. Last week, Harris Corporation and Symantec each announced several acquisition moves.
McAfee (NYSE:MFE) has also joined the fray, announcing yesterday that the company has entered into an agreement to acquire Trust Digital, which provides enterprise mobility management and security software.
“The acquisition of Trust Digital“™s industry-leading enterprise mobility management solutions will extend the current McAfee security portfolio beyond the traditional endpoint, addressing the rapidly expanding mobile security market,“ Dave DeWalt, president and chief executive officer, McAfee, said. “Once completed, Trust Digital“™s industry leading enterprise mobility management solutions combined with leading McAfee antivirus, antispyware, host intrusion prevention, policy auditing and firewall technologies, will enable McAfee to address the mobile workforce by mitigating the risks associated with vulnerable or malicious mobile applications downloaded by employees.”
The deal is expected to close by June 30 and the terms of the deal were not disclosed. McAfee expects the acquisition to help the firm expand into new markets, according to DeWalt.
“Through this acquisition, we believe McAfee can expand its reach into new markets, secure new platforms and strengthen its leadership position,“ he said.
