Former government contracting executive and retired Army General Robert Harding has elected to withdraw his nomination to lead the Transportation Security Administration.

Harding, in a statement issued by the White House, cited his former connections to government contracting as the source of the decision.

“Distractions caused by my work as a defense contractor would not be good for this administration nor the Department of Homeland Security,“ Harding said in the statement.

Harding served more than three decades in the Army, and spent time as head of operations for the Defense Intelligence Agency, before founding Harding Security Associates in 2003.

HSA claimed deals with the DIA, and with contractors for the TSA and Homeland Security.
