In Britain, politicians are gearing up for the upcoming parliamentary elections which many pundits feel will see the downfall of the Labour government, to be replaced by the Conservatives. Over the weekend, hackers got involved in the political race as well, attacking Tory websites and email, according to an article on TheRegister.co.uk.
The attacks include the defacing of websites and sending spam through Tory email that informed recipients to “Vote for Labour – NOT US!”. The hackers accessed the website admin panels on ashfiedlconservatives.com, boltonsoutheastconservatives.com and paulbristow.org.uk.
The websites were quickly fixed but images from the hack have appeared on hacker forums. The hackers claimed that the password security of the sites enabled them to access the websites and the email distribution lists.
