Melissa Hathaway spoke at the Center for Strategic & International Studies on Friday with about 100 government and private sector officials.
Hathaway’s speech stressed a need for trust among the public and private sectors, as well as international cooperation.
“The federal government can’t do [cybersecurity] by itself — it has to be done with the private sector,” she said. “But we also can’t do it in isolation, it’s truly an international problem.”
Hathaway also said she remains interested in the cybersecurity coordinator position. Telling reporters after her CSIS speech: “How could you do a 60-day review and not be interested in following through on what you recommended.“
Hathaway confirmed that interviews for the new cyber czar were already underway and a decision will be released in the coming weeks.
